The quest for a society anchored on sound moral values, responsible leadership and human development has earned Prophet (Dr) Olusegun Joshua Adebayo, Founder and Presiding Shepherd of Christ Apostolic World End-Time Revival Ministry, Lagos, recognition from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos State chapter.
The association honoured the renowned cleric as its Patron and presented him with a Special Award of Recognition in acknowledgement of his commitment to character building, youth development and humanitarian service.
The twin honours were conferred on Prophet Adebayo during a brief ceremony at the church headquarters in Lagos on Sunday, with the Lagos SWAN Chairman, Ambassador Olatutu Oladunni, leading members of the State Executive Council to the event.
The recognition reflects the association’s appreciation of individuals whose contributions to society extend beyond their professional callings, particularly those who invest in the welfare of young people, promote positive values and provide hope to the vulnerable.
For Lagos SWAN, the cleric’s record of community engagement and spiritual leadership represents a valuable foundation for building partnerships that can advance the welfare of its members and strengthen the association’s standing within the Nigerian sports-writing community.
A ministry anchored on values and service
In presenting the honours, Oladunni described Prophet Adebayo as a committed servant of God whose work has been devoted to improving lives and promoting the values necessary for a healthy and peaceful society.
She noted that the cleric had distinguished himself through his advocacy for youth development, moral discipline and humanitarian intervention, describing him as a source of hope to people across different walks of life.
At a time when communities are confronted with social challenges, the Lagos SWAN chairman emphasised the importance of individuals who champion character building and encourage people to embrace positive attitudes.
She said such values were essential to creating a society in which people could live safely, pursue opportunities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Oladunni also explained that the association’s decision to honour the cleric was informed by the understanding that sports and human development are closely connected.
According to her, sports is an integral part of life, and individuals who contribute to the well-being of society can also play significant roles in supporting the sports-writing profession.
“We are indeed blessed to bestow on you the honour of being a Patron of Lagos SWAN. We crave to be among your numerous children spread across the world who will be under your spiritual covering to the glory of God,” she said.
She expressed confidence that Prophet Adebayo’s moral and spiritual guidance would contribute to the association’s growth and help its leadership achieve its objectives.
“Your moral and spiritual support are what we need at this period to take Lagos SWAN to its enviable heights,” Oladunni added.

Beyond recognition: A commitment to partnership
Receiving the honours, Prophet Adebayo expressed appreciation to Oladunni and members of the Lagos SWAN leadership for finding him worthy of the recognition.
He described the awards as significant and pledged to continue offering the association the necessary moral and spiritual support.
However, beyond expressing gratitude, the cleric used the occasion to highlight what he considered essential to the association’s long-term success: unity, selflessness and a leadership committed to the welfare of its members.
He urged members to put aside personal differences and embrace mutual love, stressing that collective progress would remain difficult without a shared sense of responsibility.
His message placed the emphasis on the responsibilities that accompany leadership and membership, arguing that the strength of an organisation depends not only on its stated objectives but also on the character and conduct of those entrusted with its affairs.
For Lagos SWAN, the challenge is to translate its aspirations into practical measures that improve members’ welfare, strengthen professional relationships and promote a common purpose.
Leadership and Nigeria’s development challenge
Prophet Adebayo also drew parallels between the challenges facing the association and Nigeria’s broader development concerns.
He argued that despite the country’s abundant natural and human resources, the absence of God-fearing, selfless and committed leadership had continued to undermine its development potential.
He maintained that responsible leadership must be built on integrity, accountability and a willingness to place collective interests above personal gain.
Applying this principle to Lagos SWAN, the cleric urged the association’s leadership to prioritise members’ welfare and guard against greed and selfishness.

He said the ability of the association to distinguish itself among professional bodies in the country would depend largely on the quality of its leadership and the relationships among its members.
“The leadership of Lagos SWAN must prioritise the welfare of members, shun greediness and selfishness, and, more importantly, members must love each other. If all these are in place, the Sports Writers Association in Lagos State will be a leading light among other associations in the country,” he said.
The message underscored the importance of internal cohesion in professional organisations, where shared objectives can only be achieved through cooperation, trust and a commitment to the common good.
An international ministry, a local responsibility
Prophet Adebayo’s ministry has branches in Australia, London, Scotland, Canada, Germany and the United States, extending its reach beyond Nigeria.
Its international presence provides a broader context for the association’s decision to recognise the cleric, whose stated commitment to spiritual guidance and humanitarian service aligns with the values Lagos SWAN seeks to promote.
The conferment of the patronship title and the Special Award of Recognition therefore represents more than a ceremonial gesture. It signals the association’s desire to draw support from individuals whose influence and commitment to human development can complement its professional objectives.
As Lagos SWAN pursues its ambition of becoming a leading voice among sports-writing associations in Nigeria, the cleric’s charge offers a clear message: institutional progress requires more than ambition. It demands leadership that values people, members who embrace unity and a collective commitment to integrity and service.
Ultimately, the lasting value of the honour will be measured not only by the recognition bestowed on Prophet Adebayo, but also by the practical impact of the partnership and the extent to which its message of unity, welfare and responsible leadership is reflected in the association’s activities.
