Nigeria’s Falconets striker and Benfica forward, Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei, has dedicated her Most Valuable Player (MVP) award against England at the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
The Falconets secured a place in the quarter-finals of the competition on Thursday after cruising to a 3-0 victory over England in their Round of 16 encounter at Stadion Miejski in Bielsko-Biała.
Tosin Rafiu gave Nigeria an early lead in the eighth minute before Akekoromowei doubled the advantage shortly after the restart.
Mary Mamudu completed the scoring in the 73rd minute as the Nigerian side sealed a convincing victory over the Young Lionesses.
The Falconets made a bright start to the encounter, with Rafiu breaking the deadlock just eight minutes into the game.
Akekoromowei, who was named MVP for her impressive performance, said the award was a tribute to Osimhen for his support at a difficult moment.
“When everything was down, someone came up for me and I think I need to show appreciation. This award is for Daddy Victor Osimhen,” an elated Akekoromowei said after the match on Thursday.
Nigeria’s victory means the Falconets advance to the last eight of the tournament, keeping alive their hopes of securing the U-20 Women’s World Cup title.
